  1. Well, a Barometer is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure. It uses Mercury, air, or water to measure the pressure being exerted by the atmosphere.

I don't know why they would give you an atmospheric pressure test!??

  2. Beware, it's likely a scam!  I'd never heard of such a thing either so I did some research for you.  Read the below links.  It appears there are some civil service exams given that are called the 'barometer test.'  It's a made up term from what I can gather.  It boils down to someone telling you that you need to buy and attend some course to pass this 'exam,' and that turns out to be meaningless and unnecessary.

Someone asked this on Yahoo answers some time in the past.  There's a link to the question (the second link).

The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) says that no such test is used to get a civil service job.  One place described in the first link said that it cost $600 to take the course which is useless for the kinds of jobs it supposedly is required for.

    Beware!
