It is a former Ministry Of Defence building that was transferred to Government of Gibraltar ownership back in 2004.

It is still used by millitary personel and is a residential building of 16 residential flats that are used for families and friends who are visiting Gibralter. This MoD information document has a detailed description which reads:

Short Term Family Accommodation in Gibraltar – Britannia House

Britannia House on Queensway is an excellent and recently refurbished

facility. The building contains 16 two bedroom flats available for hire to

UK based military and civilian personnel. It is ideal for short term accommodation

for visiting families and friends. All the flats are fully furnished,

can accommodate up to six people and linen is provided. Prices reflect a

high and low season and bookings must be for two nights minimum. Full

details are available from the GAF office on 00350 (5) 5265.
