Any satellite or group of related satellites that operates in low Earth orbit, generally in orbits lower than 1,000 or so nautical miles.  A satellite system may also describe associated specialized ground stations or equipment that together with the spacecraft create an end-to-end solution to some problem.  Some satellite systems use a collection of separate spacecraft communicating with each or otherwise working in concert where just one wouldn't work, such as in long baseline imaging or low-power radio communications.
