What is Nicotinic Acid?

My cardiologist told me to take Nicotinic acid, but he didn't explain why, can someone pls explain it to me? thanks

Well basically your Nicotinic acid is used to control your Cholesterol, to know how Nicotinic acid works, you got to understand cholesterol, and basically cholestrol is made up of 2 things, LDL (bad cholesterol - this is the stuff that blocks arteries) and HDL (good cholesterol - which is good for you). Now Nicotinic acid basically increases your HDL and lowers your LDL and usually keeps your overall cholesterol around about 4, it's very effective especially if you just has a open heart surgrey or anything like that because it keeps everything under control along with other drugs such a Lipitor and all that. But please talk to your cardiologist if you experince symptoms like reflux, boils, itchy skin and immediately discontinue it if you have any kidney ailments
