Yes you can look at it that way but they do alot more and they would be offended if you called them combat controllers..

I worked as a infantry radio operator and I graduated call for fire school..Im qualified to call for fire by any means necessary in the USMC but if I were in the AF I would be some sort of special operations person and it even has its own MOS..Its no big thing in the USMC but it seems to be a huge thing in other branches.

In the USMC there are alot of "combat controllers" because they are needed..Each battalion has many forward observers, FAC team members, and other Marines calling in fire missions besides ANGLICO.
