What is a Certified Copy?

Is a certified copy a photocopy of a birth certificate that is certified.. with the little seal thing? i need to know I am going on vacation to Canada and my friend has a copy of your certified birth certificate.

You can only get a certified copy from the Dept. of Vital Statistics of the STATE in which you were born and it will cost you about $10 and if you are smart you will get about 5 of them because you will use all of them over time.

Yes.  The embossed seal from the locale of your birth must appear on the birth certificate copy for the agent to accept it as valid.  If your copy doesn't have an embossed seal, it will not be accepted at the border.
