  1. ya the reserve is one weekend a month  and 2 weeks a year / when he gets out of basic training and AIT depending on his -mos-(job) i was gone for 16 weeks then came home  to start my once a week thing ,pay is based on your rank and you will get paid once a month after he gets home ,when he is in basic and ait he will get paid once a month i think also  it's hard to remember  it's been so long ago //

  2. there is no part time reserve. it is full time reserve. he is just reserve.

    bootcamp:

    will last 13 weeks.

he will not be able to call or write for the first couple of weeks until they earn their privledges. their drill instructors will break them down mentally. they will tell him that his gf is off with other guys, his parents don't care he is gone, they are all shipping off to Iraq the moment the graduate. they break you down before and then build you back up into a Marine. they are not a Marine until the graduate. until then they are just a rerurit.

after boot graduation, which you can go to if you want, he will be granted 10 days of leave. he can come home during that time. but the USMC will not pay for travel. then he must get himself back to his base for his training. my dh was 0311 so he had to go back for SOI (school of infantry) after that he was sent back home and had to sign into his new unit.

    after boot:

he will serve one weekend out of the year. but that may not be saturday and sunday. it could possibly be thursday to monday. then there is AT (annual training) that is normally two weeks, but could also be up to a month (they will receive active duty pay for this). they can go anywhere in the world for this. last time my dh went to Belize. for 3.5 weeks.

it also depends on where he was stationed. my husbands unit was stationed in one city, but the entire company was stationed out of another state. so there were many times when they were put on a greyhound and shipped a few states over to do their weekend drills, hence why they can be gone more than just saturday and sunday.

also, they normally don't come home on the weekends. they will leave home early one morning and come back late a few nights later. so don't count on him coming home for dinner every night.

pay works like everybody else. the military pays on the 1st and the 15th of the month. average pay for my husband was $70, but i cant remember if that is each check or together. and that would be like from a saturday 0400 to sunday night at 1030.

they will be issued gear like normal Marines and then will be kept at home. his gun will be assigned to him and kept at the armory.

they will be required to go to the USMC ball every year around Nov. 10th. that is actually a blast. i am very sad the Army doesn't require this.

i think that pretty much covers it all. i dont think he ever had to do anything during the week. he will be given orders to give to his civilian job to excuse him from work on the days he has drill.

    hope that helps

  3. As a reservist he'll go through boot camp and SOI or his MOS school just like any other Marine. After he's done school he only reports to his unit one weekend a month and two weeks during the summer. He will most likely be stationed at one of the local bases. As a reservist he can be activated and deployed if that's what the military needs of him. He gets paid only for the time he is in uniform.

  4. The Marine Corps reserve is like a part time Marine.  What we call "weekend warriors".  He'll be gone for 3 months in boot camp.  Then he'll be back for 9-10 days on liberty and then off to MCT.  He'll go straight to MOS school (length depends on MOS) and then he'll be back.  Afterwards he'll check into a "Reserve unit" around your area and has to keep on going to that unit "one weekend a month (usually the first weekend of the month) and AT (annual training for 2 weeks in the summer time)".  Other than that first weekend and 2 weeks during the summer, he'll be right beside you so don't worry.
