What is a Stud?

I have an exzam on horses and in the text book they don't say what a stud is.

A stud is basically a male horse of what is considered good bloodlines that is used solely for the purpose of breeding.  Or, in layman's terms a sperm donor. Good luck.

A stud is a male horse of breeding age that has not been gelded.  Meaning he is still capable of breeding (has not been castrated). It's really just another name for Stallion.

Technically, a "Stud" is a place where a number of stallions are held for breeding purposes.

It's a high-quality, race-winning male horse that's been retired from racing, but spends the rest of his life impregnating other horses, mainly because the thought is that he is genetically superior, an his offspring would have better genes and possibly win lots of races. Breeders do the same thing with champion dogs. The owner of such a horse can make some sweet moola by offering his male horse as a stud. Look at it as "equestrian prostitution". By the way, there's no Z in exam.
