What is a bank reference number?

i am filling in a application and it ask me to give the bank reference number what is this

what kind of application are you filling up? If they need to pay you something through your bank, maybe they're asking about your own bank account number..

or else, take the first advice, just leave it blank. if it's too late to ask them, i hope you put your contact number so they can ask you about it if its important.

They want to know how you found out about the job. If it was a printed ad, there was likely a "reference number" in the ad. A "reference number" might also appear in an on-line listing. Leave it blank if you don't have the ad  handy.
