  1. A car dealer makes his living from buying and selling cars.

Sometimes if it is a large dealership there will be salespeople employed, who work for the company, but dont own it.

Normally, only small dealerships are owned and ran by one person, say, Jim Browns cars.

Larger car dealerships like a Toyota yard will have a Dealer Principal, who owns the company and will employ staff.

  2. The car dealer is short for car DEALERSHIP (the store).

Most often people who work there would say "I'm a car salesman" and the person who own it would say "I own a dealership"

Long time ago, they would call the salesman a dealer (like wheeler - dealer).

    Good Luck...

  3. The proper term is "stealership."

  4. Car dealership is the business it's self, the actual building.  a car dealer can refer to the person who owns it.  Example, what does he do for a living.....answer....He is a car dealer.
