What is a casting side?

On a few TV show message boards there are spoilers posted called "Casting Sides" and they have weird names and scenes, but apparently the names are the main characters...or something.

Does anyone know exactly what a casting side is?

  1. it's a piece of a script.  The actor will generally read a side during a cold read audition during casting.
