Like not a beginner like a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko, and not to difficult like moniters or iguannas? I was thinking about maybe a mali uromastyx, or a chameleon.

I have about $300 that I can spend on the habitat and reptile.

I want to be able to handle it without stressing it out to much

What do you reccomend?

*no snakes, parents won't allow it.

  1. do some research on the internet for animals you are interested in ... once you find something you like then go to the pet store and find out how much everything will cost.

  2. Neither the uro or chameleon are good for handling. I have a russian tortoise and she is really cool and funny. I spent around $350 for everything including her. But if you really want something you can hold, a bearded dragon is the best choice.

  3. chameleon make great pets.

  4. Blue-tongue skinks are a really fun and easy-to-hold reptile.  The care for a blue-tongue skink could be described as intermediate, since lighting, temperature, and habitat must all be closely paid attention to. But they don't get overly huge like an iguana, and are usually less than 20" full grown. I really recommend a blue-tongue skink since you are looking for something you can hold.. they are docile, very easily tamed, and mine used to just chill in my lap! Good luck with whatever new pet you choose!

  5. Uromastyx are relatively low maintence I consider them a beginer pet a chameleon is more intermediate pet they require around 200-300 dollars your not supposed to handle them but its fun to see them change colors and eat bugs from 6 in. away.  I would go with the chameleon.

  6. if you would like to try a chameleon, i have a simple test you can take to see if you are a perfect candidate to bring this marvelous creature to your home.

  7. Uromatix make good pets, atleast in my opinion. I've found that some can be a bit nippy and don't enjoy being held all that much, but an uro that is used to human contact will do just fine.

    Other species:

Mountain Horned Dragons- This lizard grows to about a foot long. Mountain Horned Dragons eat insects. It is comparable to a mini version of the Chinese Water Dragon. It has a wonderful temperament and after they get used to you, they enjoy contact.

Chinese Water Dragons- About three feet long. I've never had the pleasure to own a Chinese, but they seem like a wonderful lizard to have, that is if you can provide the large water/earth enclosure.

Fire Skinks!!: Personal favorite. Active, curious and very colorful. Blue Tongue Skinks are also pretty cool. Skinks are a little harder to find, but they make beautiful pets.

Chameleons: Chameleons are amazing creatures, but if you don't know what you're doing and meet all the requirements for their care to the foot, they make a poor choice of pet.  They do not like to be handled often, but its still beautiful too look at them climbing on a jungle gym while you sit and munch some food.

Do a bit of research for each species, I personally feel inclined towards the fire skink as I own two and they're as fun as a pair of puppies with scales.

  8. A tortoise

  9. Uromastyx!!!

  10. blue tongue skink

    fire skink

    collared lizard

    leopard lizard (not gecko)

yellow throated plated lizard (30 gallon)

    spiny crevace lizard

    blue spiny lizard

All of these can be handled without too much worry. The blue tongue is the largest at up to 2 feet and needs a 40 gallon tank, the rest can be in a 20 gallon except the plated lizard.

  11. turtle
