Question:

What is a good first job? ?

I am looking for my first job. I am 18 and a senior in college. I have never worked before because school has always been my top priority, obviously. I have done volunteer work so I do have some references. I am not allowed to work in food service (because of my dad doesn't want me too.) I am good with animals and cars, if that helps.

Any ideas? Thank You!

  1. You should try to get a job that is inline with your future career prospects.

Also, any job where you have to deal with customers, especially the ones that may make your work difficult, is always good as it will increase your BS tolerance as well as it will teach you how to fake giving a c**p when you really don't :-).  A job where you have to deal with many people is always best as it will improve your interpersonal/soft skills.  Best of luck!

  2. I work with a wellness company called Melaleuca! There is the opportunity to work from home and earn pretty good income and it only costs $29 to get started! With the $29 one time membership fee, you become a preferred customer and shop for items at your Melaleuca store monthly that you would normally buy at the store anyway. So you're not spending any new money by shopping because you'll be getting the same things that you would normally buy! Plus, our products are healthier and safer for you and your family!

I am a disabled vet of the U S Marine Corps so I was determined to find something to do from home that was worthwhile and this is it!! It gives me stable income and the opportunity to feel useful by helping people with this business!

  3. You could work almost anywhere.. . help in a vet's office, at an auto repair replace or dealership, in a retail store, just about anywhere.  Good luck.

  4. A good first job ... hmm. I really liked waitressing when I was your age, and then bartending, both were a lot of fun - but if your dad is really against it, I guess that's out. If you like animals, you could try working as a secretary or a vet tech at a vet's office. Or, you could work at an animal rescue shelter (I did that for awhile, got paid pretty well for what it involved, too) which involves taking care of animals that get left behind or rescued from abusive owners. You could also work at a kennel, where you take care of other people's animals while they're on vacation or deployed. I worked at a kennel that took in dogs and cats of soldiers serving overseas for awhile, too, and it was incredibly rewarding. We also had people who fostered the animals so they could get out for awhile, and I ended up fostering quite a few.
