What is a jailbroken ipod

i am looking to buy and ipod touch but what is a jailbroken one is it illegal

a jailbroken iPod is when you download a bunch of applications that you can use for iPod touch but for free. you go on a certain site like ZiPhone.com after you already bought your iPod touch & modify your touch for free. its like limewire, of course its illegal. if you do it make sure you modify it with the same version as the iPod.

A jailbroken ipod touch has access to the file system that the ipod uses. It has nothing to do with illegal songs or criminal activities. You can't buy an ipod jailbroken (unless you get it off ebay) and you must jailbreak yourself. Jailbreaking is not illegal, but it does terminate your warranty if it breaks while jailbroken. If you restore it through iTunes, apple will never notice.

yeah thats something i thought about, i never got an answer, but from a estimated guess i could figure its probably an ipod that had illegaly downloaded songs on it and the person was arrested or w/o the person part just illegal download songs on an ipod is what i think

its a software that lets you download other users application on your itouch so u can download like mostly anything that u want like games or books or stuff
