  2. Its a type of rhyming poem or verse, usually easy to remember, often funny or involving a dirty joke. Named after County Limerick in Ireland, they've been popular for hundreds of years, and Shakespeare even wrote limericks in a couple of his plays.

    Example of a limerick:

    There was a young woman from Crewe

    Who said as the Bishop withdrew

    The Vicar is slicker

    and quicker and thicker

    and 12 inches longer than you.
