  1. A philosopher is anyone, like you and me, who identifies metaphysical existents using epistemology. Actually, that is everyone, and it begins at birth when the newborn tries to begin figuring out what all the new sounds and feelings are.

But few people do it formally, writing out theories. However, all you need to do to find "real" philosophers is Google some university, then click on their Philosophy Department, and you will find, unlike with the "Professor" above me, that they all have home pages listing the books they've written (which is called their "curriculum vitea,) where they got their degrees, what their interests are, and which school of thought they follow.

On the other hand, many authors don't consider themselves philosophers, like Albert Camus. But they are so good at what they write, so inspiring, so clear in their ideas, that the world sees the philosophy in what they write--like Camus and Marcus Aurelius for example, and the world calls them philosophers.

Here are some examples of "real" philosophers:

    http://college.usc.edu/phil/home/index.c...

http://www.wmich.edu/philosophy/index.ph... This is the same as the first one, but it lets you click on the philosophers home pages and see what they have accomplished.
