  1. There are also various types of surcingles that are used for vaulting and have a either one or two handles.

  2. Ewwwwwww ANOTHER Howrse question!  Why don't you look it up?  Or better yet, get some riding lessons and LEARN about this stuff in real life!

A surcingle is a strap that's goes around the horse's girth to which the reins can be attached to or through the rings that are on it and is used for bitting up a young horse or with the long driving reins put through the rings you can ground drive it.

  3. Gosh...what happens now when there are so many answers to your question?  And.....some may be right and some may be wrong?  And, depending where you are from and the terminology used..many could be right....

Is it a multiple choice answer?

  4. Its mostly used for lunging. Its good for training a young horse. It helps get the horse more rounded and under himself. So its used to get the horse's body in the right postion.

  5. keep rugs in place

  6. yh they can be used for rugs, as Beanie said, to keep them in place. As for using them for lunging, the person who had a go @ you about getting some lessons, she needs some! She is talking about a roller, not a surcingle. A surcingle is a long piece of elastic. Jockeys also use them over their saddles as a back up, incase their girths break!

  7. Its also a second "backup" girth that goes over the top of a stock saddle

  8. a surcingle is a long elasticted strap put around the horses stomach just behind the withers.

It is used to keep on rugs that don't have cross surcingles straps that go under the stomach and attatch to the other side.

A similar product is a roller, these are not elasticted, often needing a numnah under them to prevent rubbing, A roller is often used whilst lunging to attatch side reins to.

    Hope you find this usefull.

    BEANIE

  9. Actually, Kaza, Rosi is right...a surcingle is a training aid, used in the Spanish riding school to name one.  Any strap that goes around the horse's girth and over the back can be called a surcingle, but it is most used to refer to the training surcingle as Rosi described.
