What is an Engineering degree?

It is a college degree containing specialized courses in a limited portion of engineering which provide the basic information required for doing the job of engineer.  Almost all the references will define the portion of engineering involved: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, Nuclear, etc.   To work as an engineer, most states and countries require passing a qualification test.

What is engineering?

  Engineering is the management of technology for man's use in solving problems.

And what do people with a degree in it do?

They work in industry solving problems related to the industry or in society evaluating solutions and examining problems related to technology.

What skills should you have to be successful as an engineer?

  Most engineers must have strong math skills and strong and flexible perception skills.  A common test for engineering aptitude is to show a drawing of one view of a 3D object and require that another view of the same object be selected from 3 similar looking drawings.  Most engineers have a strong visual sense - "seeing" solutions rather than working on some other way.
