What is an indirect emission ?

I have a project I'm doing on Global warming and I need to know what a direct emisson & indirect emission is.

If anyone knows PLEASE TELL!

  1. Emissions from sources generally outside the boundary of an organization. These emissions are mainly associated with waste disposed off-site, as well as the generation of imported electricity (not generated on site), heat, steam, gas and the production and distribution of petroleum products.


  2. Direct emissions are those generated on-site.  You can typically control direct emissions more so than indirect emissions.  An example of direct emissions is using natural gas for an on-site boiler.  An example of indirect emissions is purchased electricity (because the utility generates the emissions).  EPA's Climate Leaders program has very useful information for GHG research
