i have been thinking about buying a new handheld gaming system- a psp or ds. (are there really any other than those two?) the only game system i have had is a game boy advance. i like it because it is simple and easy to use. the psp seems like it is a great system but it also seems pretty complicated. it kind of intimidates me with its amount of buttons and features. the ds seems more simple and it has a lot of games that i think i would like (super mario 64). but the new madden 09 psp bundle looks really cool and i like the psp. i already have an ipod so i don't really need the music feature on the psp

  1. I used to have a psp and i have a ds but I would suggest psp :)

  2. I think DS is better:

Double screens, the bottom screen is a touch screen, Nintendo Wi-Fi, It can play Game Boy Advance games.

Doesn't  have many T rated games though.

  3. PSP is better. You can hack it to get free games. So cool.

  4. The DS gets the most support from game companies, and thusly it gets the better games.

The PSP has the better graphics.

Both can be used to play downloadable games (illegally btw D:<).

  5. Well, it seems like you've found more games that meet your interests for the DS than the PSP, which is the biggest thing I consider when buying a console. So the DS wins this one.

The next thing I consider is how much cash I'm going to be dishing out of my pocket.

    DS- 129.99

    PSP-169.99

So, there's a 40 dollar difference. However, a lot of PSP games are a little cheaper than DS games. But, you also have to buy memory sticks, those go for around 40 bucks depending on how much memory it'll hold. So then your total cost when you first buy the console would be:

DS-$160 (The console and a game)

PSP-$230 (The console, a game, and one memory stick)

So the DS wins here too.

Then comes graphics. The PSP blows the DS out of the water with graphics. So no competion here, the PSP wins.

    Next is extra features.

The DS can connect with friends and also includes Pictochat which is a cool feature.

The PSP has a lot more, which as you said makes it a little more complicated. You can have music, pictures, the whole 9 yards with the PSP.

    The PSP wins this one.

Finally, ease of use. The DS wins this one.

So, both consoles have their advantages and disadvantages. But, for you-I'd say go with the DS. It sounds like you found games you like and that's really the most important thing to consider. Because, what's a good console without games you enjoy?

  6. In addition to what many people have said, I'd also like to day that it depends on what battle-systems or genres you prefer in games. DS games have good real-time battle RPGs (The World Ends With You is one I strongly recommend). The PSP seems to have more games based off of other things (Pirates and Madden 09, for example). Personally I feel that the only RPG the PSP has going for is Birth By Sleep, which isn't even out yet.

Also if you're looking for simplicity, definitely the DS. In addition, your GBA will eventually wear down and the DS has backwards compatibility to play those games.

  7. ****This is My Brother who is going to answer this question. What is with him and games?****

Mr. Mega Man, i would like to bring a few points to the fore before you spend a large amount of money only to find out that it has gone to waste.

1- If you're looking for gaming with quality then there is only one winner and that's the PSP. The Ds does not even come close to the PSP in that regard.

2- The second is the type of games you would like to play. If it's Mario or Zelda ( God! Why do u even call that a game?) then the ds is simply the only choice but if u like madden or fifa then it is the PSP.

3- Third is perhaps the most important reason and that is the value for money. If u ask me the ds offers nothing except the touch screen about which i cannot understand the hype about. You said that u wouldn't be needing the music factor and i have to tell u that it offers much more than music. It's like a media hub in your very hand.

So in the end, my answer would inevitably be the PSP

come on mate forget the marios and zelda and get ready to go in with the big boys.

    ***Talk about a gaming nerd***

P.S All opinoions expressed in this answer are completely of my brother and I do not have any relation to them whatsoever!!!
