  1. Santa Cruz Sol Surfer said it all. They are all great boards, but a board shaped for YOU (your size and ability) and the break you ride, can't be beat. In forty + years of surfing, the two greatest boards I have ever had were ones that were custom made for me.

  2. Its a shame al merrick sold out to burton. Im gonna have to go with none of em. Wade tokoro. or Bill Johnson..

  3. Those are like decent boards, but some of channel islands/al merrick boards are good. Some of the best shapes are made Kym Thompson of water cooled, and kane garden and JS of course and local shapers are really good for local waves.

  4. the shapers you mention all make quality boards and are well known for them. however, in my opinion a custom shaped board by a local shaper is better for a few reasons. one is that they are familiar with the local breaks and waves and the conditions you most likely will be surfing. second, a custom surfboard can be tailored to your abilities. third, you know that a lot of care and thought went into your board and is not some board produced for professional surfers (which the merrick surfboards are, generally. take for example, the k board which was shaped with kelly slater in mind. who except him could ride it to its full potential?).

  5. Ok, great shapers but.... way too commercial as the first guy said.  Overall for anywhere I'd put Rusty on top of those choices but, maybe look into some firewire boards. So, my answer is RUSTY!!!!!!!!!
