What is blackwater?

I went to a community meeting tonight about a proposal to build a base of some sort about 2 miles from my house. This base will have a mile long airstrip, a race track, and it will store explosives. The lady running the meeting (who, by the way, was a complete idiot) said that the Navy called her (very likely) and told her they had no involvement in this plan (why would the Navy, which operates on WATER, want a base in the middle of nowhere, anyways...?). She therefore decided that meant that NO MILITARY was involved (but "the Navy" didn't say that)... Well, supposedly no one knows who this base is for, and when this topic came up, some guys in the back started yelling "BLACKWATER! IT'S BLACKWATER!" very angrily. They did this numerous times when people were talking (which was rude, by the way)...each time they yelled it, they sounded really mad, like it was a conspiracy...

What is blackwater, and how is it relevant to this situation??

  2. Blackwater is a private company that sends 'contractors' to Iraq to supplement our fighting forces.  Actually, these 'contractors' are mercenaries, soldiers who fight for pay.

We do this for several reasons.  One is that we just don't have enough troops in the armed forces.  Another is that Blackwater is owned by a friend of the Bush administration and gets a fat, no-bid contract.  Another is that Blackwater 'contractors' are not subject to the Geneva Convention, the US Code of Military Justice, or basically any law anywhere.  And also deaths of 'contractors' don't show up in the official statistics of American deaths in Iraq.  Blackwater 'contractors 'also get paid much more than legit American troops.

Some people think the Bush administration is training Blackwater to become a 'secret police force' in the US, to keep our own population under control!  I don't think so, but these days nothing would surprise me.

  3. "Oh black water keep on roll'in Mississippi Moon wont'cha keep on shin'in on me....."

  4. Blackwater is a mercenary organization which could be employed by wealthy interests in our country to subdue common citizens in the event of an insurrection, i.e. after a depression. It is typical of the Republican to  buy loyalty in the form  tax breaks for the wealthy,etc- these Blackwater guys make a hundred thousand plus a year while our troops are impoverished by comparison. Patriotism has nothing to do with it, a highly paid, essentially private army  and plenty of money does.

  5. black water is a private security and mercenary force.

  6. Blackwater is a private contracting company operating in Iraq.. Basically, an extra private owned and operated military force, or same thing as the military.. They've been coming under fire by civilians, politicians and military members as being a waste of tax payer money.. As many think they do less of a job than our military while costing the tax payer far far more.. Blackwater employees seem to get paid 4-6 times more than a military member for doing the exact same job..

They are also under fire because they are apparantly more wreckless.. Having less rules to follow than the military allows them to get away with more harm and destruction towards Iraq and the populace..

  7. oh black water keep on rollin mississippi moon wont you keep on shining on me.

  8. all branches of the military have Planes.

Blackwater is a private military contract and security consulting firm.  it is stupid c**p that they think is cool and secret

  9. It's basically a private army that sells their services to the U.S Government.

Most of them are ex-marines, delta, navy seals, etc.

Supposedly there are around 80,000 blackwater mercenaries that are hired in Iraq. They are not included in the casualty count.

You know on the news, when you hear about missing contractors? Those are blackwater mercenaries.

  10. the mississippi river

  11. Mercenary company. I thought that base was being built so blackwater could train certain US forces.

  12. Blackwater is not the military, meaning they are not the US:Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard or any branch of the US Government.

Blackwater is an organization that trains and deploys private professional soldiers known as private security contractors at the US government request and for payment.

These soldiers are able to do tasks that our military can not do, because of the Geneva convention.  They have less restrictions on their actions, then say a soldier from the regular military.  Also if they break the rules of engagement they can not be court martialed like a regular soldier and are usually just fired from their job for their actions.

These professional soldiers are used throughout the world to protect diplomats, shipments, and convoys of soldiers through hostile areas.

I looked on their website and they list Southern California-San Diego County about 10 miles from the Mexican boarder as a location of a proposed new training facility.

Hope this helps and here is a links for more information.

  13. Blackwater is a mercenary organization. Probably the largest private security contractors in the world. A lot of people don't like the fact that we use mercenary troops, I've never been too clear as to why though.
