  1. next big thing? they will come up with 2080p with a 200 inch tv..and everyone will sit outside of the house and watch the tv through the window..

  2. It'll be a while before broadcast networks catch up with the resolutions TVs are now supporting (1080p). With the clarity available on 1080p TVs it is unlikely that better resolution will become a big deal. The next big thing will likely be improvements in size and weight.

  3. The next logical resolution level is 1440p. I don't see any real possibility of consumer video going higher ... the benefit would be small, cost would be too high and the market too small.

Higher resolution will probably be a while (at least 5 and probably 10 years) because 1080p isn't even fully implemented yet, and TV isn't boroadcast at that resolution at all in North America.

What WILL probably come next is a) some form of 3D video @ 1080, and b) broader colour space (e.g. xvYCC and greater colour depth (e.g. 10 bit or 12 bit) at 1080p. All three of these things could be accomplished fairly easily/quickly. The other thing will be greater integration of computers/video and media distribution within the home.

  4. im going to go with 1420p

  5. the next logical step is 4K, but you have to be looking at a huge screen to resolve the image properly, which is why its so good for d-cinema.

for home use, 1920 x 1080 is plenty of resolution unless you're lucky enough to live in a cinema!

  6. I think I heard of a 1560i resolution before, but honestly...does it need to get any better so soon?

  7. There is something called Quad HDTV, but as the other person said, it's a waste unless you have an enormous screen.

    Quad HDTV is 4096 x 2160p
