  4. Hi,

I believe / have learned that there're three levels to us:  the brain (physical), the mind (mental), and consciousness (spiritual).

This is the way it is presented by Ms / Dr Susan Greenfield (the first woman ever to have presented the Royal Institution Christmas (Science) Lectures on BBC TV).

I also believe it is as the Buddha would've defined / described it, if he were alive today - which in some ways, He is  : )

Edit:  What is consciousness?  -  Awareness  : )

What makes us have one?  -  the interaction of our sense organs with the environment / neurochemistry.

(This is the view of science & the Buddha, fr what it is worth).

The 'mind' (mental level of 'us') includes memories & desires of / for the future  -  which we are advised to 'wake up to'  -  ie not be overly attached to.
