  1. just so you know shanehuceba isn't completely right.  3.1 miles might be the standard at his high school but its not the same for all schools.  some places its like 2.5 miles or slightly more.  in practices you do long runs(the distance depends on your level-JV or Varsity) and some schools have speed workouts too.  whats good about it is that it makes you mentally and physically stronger because it is a somewhat hard sport but if your really determined to do it you'll get thru it.  i recomend you to try it.

  2. It is running long distances and NOT on a track.  It's all about running in mud, dirt, on trails, roads and all kinds of stuf.

  3. it's usually held on a roadway or park not on a closed track. activities i guess would be how long one runs for 3k, 5k. its very good workout for people who like running because of the different terrain one would be running on be it gravel, dirt, pavement or grass.

  4. it's an extended distance running sport. longer than u would run in track. that's about it

  5. Cross Country is about 2 miles. It's where you run two miles straight. If you've never ran a mile, you should know that it is pretty intense, so two is very intense. It's a good stamina, and endurance exercise

  6. Cross Country is a team-based sport, but there is a sense of individuality about it as well. In high school the standard distance for any given race is 5000 meters (3.1 miles). The team player role comes in with the scoring system. The scoring is based off of the top 5 runners of the team competing. The team with the lowest score wins.

    example:

    Team A:--------------------------------------... B:

    runner #1: 1st-------------------------------runner #1: 5th

    runner #2: 2nd------------------------------runner #2: 10th

    runner #3: 7th-------------------------------runner #3: 12th

    runner #4: 8th-------------------------------runner #4: 15th

    runner #5: 69th-----------------------------runner #5: 20th

    total place#: 87-----------------------------total place#: 62

in this example team B would win because their score is lower. Competivity (is that even a word lol) is extreme. If you run next to someone for 3 miles you are going to kill yourself to beat said person in the last .1mile.  go to a meet they are really fun.You get to know a lot about a person on a 10 mile long run, you will make many people and most will become rivals and life long friends. As for the intensity.... you try doing mile repeats at race pace at 3:00 in the afternoon and tell me if its not intense.

but really its a lot of fun and i highly recommend attempting it
