I have to travel about 25 miles to and from school four days a week, so very generally speaking waht kind of gas mileage should I be looking for to satisfy my driving needs? Do I need one of those cool 40 mpg cars or could I get away with a 23 mpg car? Any ideas?

  1. I have a 2007 dodge caliber and I also have to go to school 4 times a week (26 miles to get there and 26 to get back home.) I get about 29 stop and go and 36 highway and I am very happy. My tank only holds 15gallons of gas, but it is great.

The car is a 4cylinder R/T all wheel drive and it goes fast. I had a 6 cylinder before this one and I thought I would notice the diffrence in speed and gas.

In speed I didn't notice the diffrence, the car is a fast little sucker and it is awesome inside. In gas milage I noticed a huge diffrence, I was getting 22 highway and now I'm getting 36 highway.

So I suggest anything above 30 is great.

  2. I used to go to college 35 miles there and 35 back total of 70 miles a day 5 days a week. i have a v6 sedan that got 26 mpg on highway. get something you like not that just gets good mileage otherwise you are stuck with good mpg but bad acceleration.

  3. These days anything over 25 would be considered good, but 30 or better would be more desireable. 40 MPG cars are not very common unless you want to spend a buttload on a hybrid or something that is so small that it's dangerous.
