  1. The ability of the atmosphere to capture and recycle energy emitted by the Earth surface is the defining characteristic of the greenhouse effect.

  2. Due to heavy industrialisation and transportation(modernisation), carbondioxide, sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen are increasing in atmosphere day by day. carbondioxide has capacity of absorbing heat radiations and thus increasing temperature. This increase in global temperature mainly due to green gases like that of heat absorbing carbondioxide is called "greenhouse effect".

  3. The greenhouse effect is the process in which the emission of infrared radiation by the atmosphere warms a planet's surface. The name comes from the incorrect analogy with the warming of air inside a greenhouse compared to the air outside the greenhouse (see "Real Greenhouses" below).

  4. especially in the cold countries plants are planted in houses made up of glass because the rays of sun can be used by plants through glass for photosynthesis .But glass will also not allow the rays to radiate back( as it is with the atmosphere of earth) at night time. Thus the heat will be trapped & this heat is used by plants to grow .As it is helping in the growing of green plants this is known as grewen house effect
