  1. Holistic or wholistic development means that we percieve a child in all his completeness. Remember that in education, it is not enought to nurture the kids academically, thus we need to nurture and develop the other aspects of a child's development:

COGNITIVE-  decision-making, critical thinking, problem solving capacities

SOCIAL- interpersonal and intrapersonal skills which involve appropriate behavior and values, relating to oneself and others

    EMOTIONAL- feelings and expressions

PHYSICAL- gross motor tasks and fine motor skills used for movement, writing, and other activities involving our muscles and bones.

A holistically nurtured child will definitely meet and may even go beyond his potentials.

  2. It's looking at a child as a "whole".  It means social, emotional, physical, etc. development.  Basically, it means not just looking at if they can count to 20, but how do they interact with kids etc.

  3. The word you are looking for is "holistic" and it means "complete" -"all-round" and "as a single unit".

  4. Like all the other labels attached to (preschool) learning, such as academic-based, play-based, holistic and  Montessori, use similar teaching techniques. Sure, they differ a bit, but are mostly the same.  After all, how many ways can you teach a four-year-old with a 20-minute attention span?

I would argue a school's label is a marketing strategy, a way to differentiate itself from the competition.  If your neighborhood already has a Montessori, for example, a self-proclaimed "holistic" pre-school would be a way to attract parents, and thus students and tuition.
