  1. the lines on the map that cross from horizotaly are latitude.   high latitude pt. barrow, alaska. low latitude mexico city, mexico. it's a grid along with longitude.

  2. Latitude gives the location of a place on Earth (or other planetary body) north or south of the equator. Lines of Latitude are the horizontal lines shown running east-to-west on maps. Technically, latitude is an angular measurement in degrees (marked with °) ranging from 0° at the equator (low latitude) to 90° at the poles .

^ That's a link to a picture on wikipedia. Go figure out which countries are at the areas with high latitude.

  3. Dawn got it! Low latitude refers to places near the equator (think warm). High latitude refers to places near the poles (think cold).

Don't confuse latitude with longitude. Longitude is angular distance east or west of the Prime Meridian, which is an imaginary north-south line running through Greenwich, England and both poles.

The way I remember the difference between latitude and longitude: LONGitude lines are all as LONG as each other, so they are the ones that run north and south through the poles, and latitude lines are the other ones--east to west, like the equator.

  4. Lines of latitude run parallel to the Equator. The 38th parallel dividing North and South Korea.
