What is model UN?

my high school has model UN for one of the extra circulars and i might be intrested in it. can anyone tell me what model UN is? and how it works?

It ismodel united nations. You debate world topics like nuclear non proliferation, drug trafficking, and child soldiers. You research your topic and the country you are assigned to and then go into committee and debate it. Every country says a speech, other countries say comments on the speeches given, solutions are suggested for the problem, you do caucuses (discussions in small groups), and pass notes to other delegates. At the end of the debate you pass resolutions with solutions for the topic. I highly recommend it. I took it this year and I found it to be a lot of work but really informative and fun.

I think your first responder gave you a perfect answer. He spent one year in the program so he should know!

I can't understand why someone gave "thumbs down" on this answer. I've noticed that some people are negative on everything, and that includes the United Nations.

We know the UN is not perfect, and will need many changes to be effective in the world. But the debate should be about how to improve the UN, and not just thumbs down.

I'm a big supporter of the UN and read it's Human Development Reports every year to ascertain what are the most pressing things in the world that have to be addressed.

Another supporting agency of interest is the United Nations Association. They have excellent speakers and great guest speakers at their monthly meetings. There are branches all over and I'd suggest you and others like you check them out.
