What is "reality" to you?

Do the stars, even though you can see them, seem real to you?

What about a man-made invention, such as a radio or tv. your mind is receiving the messages that you hear coming from it, but without the sound emissions, you know it is just there....

Any thoughts on that?

  1. Yeah our senses really do not give us any reception of reality as they are all limited by their very own design. So I will agree with the others who mentioned Morpheus and the Matrix idea. You need to watch this video about perceiving reality. It answers your question perfectly!! Of course you do know, that you will be watching and hearing it without actually watching and hearing it. LOL. It's really cool, check it out! Hope it helps! Best wishes.

  2. Reality is confirmed by objective evidence that all can see, touch, smell, taste, and hear.

  3. Reality is this thing I can not escape. And even when I try to I just end up right back here.

  4. CC is wrong, I accept black holes as reality but I can't hear, smell, taste, touch, or see them.

Defining reality, is difficult, I just claim it's something with some form of physical effect, however small, on the universe in the end.

  5. "If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain " - Morpheus

Of course there is a bit more to it than that on the brains part, but it sums it up nicely I think.

  6. The last person who asked me anything similar to this was stoned out of his mind.  Just sayin'.

Reality is objective.  It is there whether or not we're paying attention to it.  The stars are perfectly real to me, because I know how what they're made of, how far away they are, and how long their light takes to reach us -- I can model an understanding of them regardless of my relatively indirect experience of them.  This is what our brains do, model the world around us and update that model with information from our senses.  I don't know whether that comes close to answering your question, but if it helps your come-down, so be it.

  7. Reality is what you are asking for is it correct? whats real in this world? everything which you will be burnt to ashes, this human race gets wiped out because of their sins and deeds, becaus Jesus is coming soon. Coming to your question, without a creator there is no creation, so as without SONY company there are no SONY television or Music systems and goes on, what do you believe is what is reality, be wise question your self but not others opinion, because when you question yourself is when the exact reality comes out and feel that Jesus created the stars, this world, you and me, this radio including radio waves, and gave the knowledge to this human so that he could find them out and praise Jesus for his cration, but what do we do, we just boast ourselves telling its we the one who invented or discoverd these, what if we were not born in this world? will that invention not happen, no because Jesus will give  that knowledge to another person in return, Dear please ask your self whats reality is

  8. Lol, reality, to me, is something that is real and has been proved, if one of my 5 senses can take notice of it then it is reality... but of course that's just me.

  9. We live in a world of illusion. The five senses lead us believe that the world is real. Seeing the solidity of the objects around us, feeling the impact of the senses, it is hard to deny the validity of what we see. Everything looks real and we never stop to question this reality.

Each person interprets and relates to other people's behavior, words and attitudes in a different way, according to the contents of his subconscious mind. No one's world is like another. A world is created, based on our interpretation of what we see hear and sense.

Thoughts arise in the mind and we become aware of them. The same kind of thoughts tend to arise again and again. If we let this process continue, it goes on incessantly. These thoughts make us expect, behave, talk and act in a certain personalized way, and thus cause the people we come in contact with, to treat us and relate to us in a certain manner.

We can wake up completely, understand and become conscious of the illusion. Then we can live as we really are: as a pure, formless, beginning-less and endless consciousness.

Due to illusion it seems as if we are all separated, having individual selves and each living a different life. Even when we wake up from the illusion, this changes. We continue to see and experience it, yet it is of no concern to us anymore. Outwardly we may continue to live our life in the same manner, but we are really awake.

    That is reality.

  10. I do not doubt that everything I can perceive outside of myself is real.

But to me, though that is reality, no matter what I see with my eyes is temporary, that I know of. So to me, reality is temporary. Nothing I can see (with a few moments of spiritual sight excluded) will last forever.

  11. Reality is itself opposite from anything which is false. As for the radio and tv...well it is an illusion that Allah The Inventor has put in front of us to study and or use just like the computer, camera, food and any other matter that is separate from the spiritual realm. Before a thought such as an "invention" even enters the mind of an animal or human being it must reside somewhere else. So where does man retrieve his thoughts and inventions from? Of course a deaf man sees a radio but he cannot hear it because he is not The Creator or The Possessor of sound waves or evidence, which is just another reason why a believer should remember how important it is to Thank The Possessor and The Creator of sound waves and evidence for all that they can hear and comprehend, unlike the deaf man who comprehends no substantial evidence of sound waves .

    Asa lamu alaykum.

  12. Reality is backed by actual evidence.

  13. "Reality" is an illusion.  It is subjective, and the perception of it is completely in the mind of the beholder.  The brain SUBCONSCIOUSLY edits what we perceive and how we perceive it, which means that there is no way of even perceiving an objective reality.

It's not about what it is to me, or to the other people here, or anything else like that.  What's important is the fact that there are no absolutes, no objective viewpoints.

    All is colored by perception.

  14. What is "reality" to you?

Reality can be experienced with all our senses and objectively verified.

Just out of curiosity, why have you placed the word reality in quotations.

  15. Life and all it entails.

  16. We live inside The Matrix...

  17. Reality is something no American citizen has ever discovered or felt and never will until their country is under flames just like it was in 911. That's reality they think it was some Muslim terrorist when it was their own government.

  18. What I see, hear, and feel.

  19. The stars, they've been far too distant, until now. If you travel some where remote enough and look into the night sky, reality will come crashing down. The stars collapse and you get a great opportunity to score with some hot babe on a boat.

That's my reality. True story, except for the scoring part. I made that up.

  20. Reality is what can be perceived.

  21. In a nutshell, reality is what lays beyond the illusion of this existence.

  22. Jesus is Truth.  The Bible is truth.

The truth is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

  23. Yes but the greater reality is after this life, whether in heaven or h**l.
