Question:

What is stat pay ?

I called in sick to work today. I'm not sick though.

Now I just got a call back from them saying I need a doctors note unless I don't want to get my stat pay..

Clearly I'm not going to be getting a note, so what is this stat pay I'm missing out on here?

  1. It means that you will get paid if you were actually sick enough to visit the doctor. But personally, I think this is BS because sometimes, I am TOO sick to go to the doctor or my stomachache is not worth a doctor's visit  but calling in sick should suffice, you know?

  2. It is just statutory sick pay, it just means if you can proove you really are sick then you will still get payed for the time you are having off, but obviously if you dont have a note to show then you wont get paid.

  3. Your employers are wrong here. If your absence is less than 7 days you do not need to give a doctors note, you can "self certificate" instead (sign something to say you were ill).  Ask your employer for either their own version of this form or form SC2 to sign.

Stat pay is SSP - statutory sick pay.
