What is the best inexpensive cheese?

I'm looking for something better than your average kraft.

Some kind of smooth cheddar, such as Colby is usually a favorite.  Also, Monterrey Jack is popular as well.

My personal favorite is Edam cheese.  Not too expensive, but has a very smooth flavor.

Here's a tip:  When shopping for cheese, stay away from the dairy aisle.  That's mostly Kraft and store brands.  Most major supermarkets have an area for gourmet items, usually with a whole refrigerated section just for cheeses. (Usually not far from the meat department.)  It's there where you'll find the better or more exotic cheeses.

I always favored colby jack and sharp cheddar...hahah, not "kraft," so my answer may have helped nothing.
