  2. TRADITIONALLY (technically) the 75th Wedding Anniversary Gift was supposed to be Radium (but has never existed until more modern times).  This must have been before it was known that radioactivity was harmful.  OR, perhaps, the old lists were referring to Rhodium which is much more expensive than Gold and Platinum.

In the USA (specifically) they seem to have adopted the Diamond (and Gold??) for the 75th Anniversary.  This is a more recent development and has no traditional background.

Perhaps because Rhodium is so VERY expensive.

Anyway, the Diamond has always been for the 60th.

One could also argue that TRADITIONALLY SPEAKING, there is not supposed to be a 75th Wedding Anniversary Gift.  The "Gift Years" (q.v.) jump from 50 and past 75 to 80.

This List is a representation of the Tradition:

    50       gold

    55   emerald

    60 diamond

    65 blue sapphire

    70 platinum

    ((ONLY MODERN TIMES

    80 diamond,

    85 diamond,

    90 diamond,

    95 diamond,

    100   diamond))

Please Note: 80 to 100 were not previously included, traditionally.

I have provided you with a link, below, which shows the Traditional gifts, both as the old list, AND the more modern one.
