What is the message of 1984?

I just read the novel, 1984, and it sort of confused me. I'm not sure what the message of the novel is. If has any idea to what the message is, please, enlighten me. :-)

  1. Don't trust whitey when big brother is watching.


  2. the message was we all become robots or part of the same old system because we aren't allowed to be individuals in this system. you either conform or you die. there's not inbetween. it only gets worse with technology if its not used properly.

  3. When we let government run our lives, we fail.

    Its as simple as that. Dont let the gov't become big brother and dictate what you do.  

  4. Don't let the government (big brother) take away your freedom in the name of security or peace, or you will find yourself in a totalitarian society with no rights or voice. I can think of quite a few cases where that happened ...
