  1. Depends.  The person acting in full capacity as a doctor, but often is no more than an RN, is a midwife.

There are also volunteers, or family friends, who act as a doula...which is a person who does the non-doctor type stuff...

back rubs, bringing cups of ice, giving emotional support, that type of thing.

  2. I think you mean a midwife. They help with the birth of the baby in home births, and have some medical training. There is also something called a Doula which I understand to be the same type of thing without the medical training, and they help for a longer period of time.

  3. doula

  4. Midwife or Doula?

  5. midwife.

  6. Midwife, doula, OB/GYN
