Years ago networking involve complex techniques in how to get ways to interconnect different networks, like telephone networks, data networks, etc. Several data networks has complete different protocols, like X.25, Frame Relay, ATM, and even different kind of LANs.

But, Internet solve this problem in a whole different way, so, networking became related with Internet technology that links different netoworks as a one a whole network

"The networking" is horrible English, thats for sure. You probably mean, "What is a computer network"?

It is one computer connected to at least one other computer.
