What is the (purpose of) education?

The memorization of facts? Attainment of knowledge? Pursuit of an art? Is there a difference between learning about history and learning from history? Do people learn for the sake of becoming ‘smart’? To get high-paying jobs? Because they are interested in a subject? Has it always been like this? What is learning? Is education a process? Is it different from educating? Is what education is and what it should be two different things? Does learning environment matter (public, private, online, etc)? Is there learning beyond the immediate face value of a given subject? Has education/its purpose changed over the years? How so? Are these changes for the better? What do you think education is? What do you think education should be?

Very fine, valid, and important question.  Currently, under the present state of affairs, an incipient police state in the offing, the purpose of education is to indoctrinate and brainwash, and "normalize" students to prepare them for their place in the coming feudal society.

As has been said by various NWO types, especially the Rockefellers -- we don't need well educated people, just people bright enough to operate the machinery of industry, etc., who have learned to follow orders.

Sound delusional and/or harsh? Do the research.

Classically, education was designed to lay a foundation in the humanities and sciences, so that the citizen would become a whole, competent individual, with the ability to question and reason, and participate constructively in the culture.  That was the dream when "democracy" still had some element of real existence.  And that should always be the goal.

Modernly, the goals of the planet's owners are less people and open culture centered and more control (of everything and everyone) oriented. Hmmm.
