What is the scientific method?

Explain it to me as if you explained it to a friend of yours...as simple as you possibly could. Thanks. :)

The scientific method is a process to find an answer.  First, you come up with a question, like Why doesn't my flashlight work?  Then you form a hypothesis, like, IF I put the batteries in THEN the flashlight will work.  (A hypothesis should be in an If....then... format).  Then you test your hypothesis and come up with a result.

Scientific method is pretty much like a recipe for a cake. You just say your method for carrying out an experiment in steps.
