  1. Traffic damage is the effect from vehicular or foot traffic that cause injury to turfgrass. PEACE LOVE & HAPPINESS!!

  2. At one time I worked in watershed management in Yosemite National Park.  Traffic damage on hiking trails, in and around camp grounds, was a resource management issue.  Trail traffic damage in areas on popular routes to the back country was also an issue.

Basically over use of a trail leads erosion and deepening of the path into a channel that becomes a water course that accelerates erosion.  This further leads to the degradation of the trail.

Another problem that might be closer to your question is foot traffic that damages sensitive habitat in and around campgrounds.  I've been to many camping areas  in Yosemite that were posted with signs to stay out because they were in restoration.

I wish I could give you a link to get more information.
