I got charged over $3,000 for tuition assessment from my university and I only went in for orientations and signed up for classes...so what is tuition assessment?

  1. Your tuition "assessment" is the portion of your student account that represents the charges for your course tuition - this may or may not (but probably doesn't) include fees, like lab fees, activities fees, etc.

    Now that you've registered for classes, your university is billing you according to the number of credit hours that you signed up for.

    If you are expecting financial aid, keep in mind that most financial aid is not disbursed until at least a couple of weeks into the semester - it won't be distributed until the frantic drop/add period is over, when lots of students switch in and out of classes. If you have been awarded financial aid, you will not be responsible for making payments on your student account until the financial aid has been disbursed. Check with your financial aid office for more information.

    So - yep - the $3000 is your tuition bill for this semester. that's what you're there for!
