What is walking beans?

My friend said this was his job when he was in middle school.

You walk between the rows of soybeans and using a hoe or a machete, cut the corn, cockleburs and other things that interfere with the growing bean plants.

Harry M is right.  Basically you're weeding because beans are more sensitive than other plants, so you don't want to use pesticides or herbicides on them.

I did it every summer for about 2 months on my uncles farm until I graduated from high school.
