Question:

What is wrong with my cat??

Every once in a while my cat has these hacking spells. It sounds like he's coughing up a furball but he never spits anything out. After the spell he's completely fine. Does anybody know what this is? Or Is it just me worrying about him too much or should I get him checked out by the Vet?

  1. It should be fine.

Or oldest cat has these sometimes, mainly when she's surprised or has just gotten scared, she'll run off and begin hacking.

  2. mine always does that ive never found a hairball in my house but my cat is an indoor/outdoor i think itll be fine maybe just somethings caught in his throught or he is working on coughing up a hairball

  3. My cat does this, too. I think the cat is probably just trying to cough up a hairball, but doesn't get anything to come up at that time. I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as your cat doesn't do it constantly. You might want to buy some hairball remedy gel for cats. You feed the cat a small amount every so often and it's supposed to keep hairballs from developing so much. I give some to my cat now and again and she's been good about not getting hairballs. I also feed her dry food that is for hairball control as well.
