What is wrong with my knee!?!?!?

Ok I used to play basketball ALL the time until about a year ago. I got a job and just did not have time for it anymore unfortunatley. However I decided today to get back into the game. I went to the local gym with a friend of mine and played some 1 on 1. It was about half way through the first game I noticed there was something wrong with my right knee, it hurt quite badly. Enough so that I had to kind of limp along for awhile until I called it quits. After about 10 minutes of rest, the pain was gone and I tried to play again... This did not work, the pain came sharply back to my knee so I had to call it quits for the day. I have had NO problems with either of my knees in the past, they have always been quite strong and never caused a problem. My friend told me that it might be because I have not played, nor ran for that matter, in such a long time and that it should be alright after a few days of exercising/playing. Is he right? Will it be good after a few days at the gym? Or could it be something serious? I can have it looked at by the doctor if need be, but I would rather not. Could I just wear a knee brace? The pain is on the right backside of my knee if that helps you any. I just turned 18 and I am 6'6 and about 210 pounds. Please help me out guys... I just want to play again!!! Thanks!

  1. You could have a torn meniscis.  You should go to your Dr. and get an MRI just to make sure that your knee is okay.  If you continue to exercise the knee, you could do more damage...and if you end up requiring surgery, you could make the surgery more involved by continuing to work the knee.  Take Alleve, and ice the knee until you can see a Dr.  That helped my pain a great deal.  But, you still need to get that MRI.  I hope you get along okay.  Good luck.

  2. I would answer that question with exactly the answer you're looking for... but since you didn't use any paragraphs to break up your horrible writing, I'm choosing not to.

    Try again.

  3. It's probably nothing, if you can invest in a light brace (or just tape your knee to support the tendons) you should be okay. I'd say try for a couple more days and stop if it hurts (don't strain it too much in case there is something wrong). If it doesn't go away after a couple of days I would consider going to see a doctor to get it checked out.
