shame/fear. i dont want to let the people around me think i will fail in college. i dont want to be that person who doesn't succeed at her career, but instead wasted all that time in school not learning. i would feel great shame

No, No,  and NO!  I have the freedom to do what I want to do in this world.  I know I will not be stuck in the USA for the rest of my life and that is a real comfort.  $$ doesn't mean anything.  I am around tons of people with money who are dull, uninteresting and get upset at the dumbest things because all they know is what it is like to have money.
