Question:

What is your superstition on cemetaries?

There's a cemetary across the street from my house, and lately I've been biking there everyday just to look around, or water the flowers. Even though I'm not a superstitious person, I tend to think i "see" things, or even hear them.

I am of course, very aware that I'm most likely psyching myself out just because of where I am-but I was just curious if you had any thoughts on cemetaries.

Just dirt with dead people? Or something more?

  1. Unless someone died in the cemetary i find it unlikely that there would be ghosts there, a ghost dosen't follow around it's body after death, I woud think. anyway. However that dosen't mean your mind was just playing tricks on you, there could easily be something there.

When people walk into a cemetary they instantly assume that there is some unearlthy spirit there waiting to scare the living lights out of them, however the amounts of time I have been in graveyards I have never experienced anything abnormal but have been subjected to a unregular feeling. Like the one i get when I go into hospitals, I become unnerved and jittery i feel like crying constantly and I think it it just because I know some one in this place that I am standing right now, have either been subjected to harsh pain or has died. It's a creepy thought. Like I said there might easily be a spirit there but I find it unlikely, keep going everyday and log the experiences you have there, if they get weird then do some research on your local cemmetary , maybe you will find something out that you didn't know before. :3 Good luck.

  2. Interesting question. Ultimately, I feel that a cemetery is merely a resting place for our vessels/bodies, so I have no real superstitions regarding them. Earthbounds/ghosts have been known to hang out there.

  3. If you 'feel' something every time you go in to water the flowers, and I give you 3 cheers for being a kind person to water the flowers, invest in a cassette recorder or digital recorder.  At this point in time I think a digital would be cheaper, and take it to the cemetery with you.  If  you remember where you 'saw' something, turn the recorder on, state the date, time, the cemetery name and say something like 'if there's anyone here who would like to say something, please do so'  Then leave the recorder on the stone and water the flowers, look around, do what you normally do in the cemetery.  When you're ready to leave, get your recorder.  We always say thank you and when you get home you may have an EVP.  (Electronic Voice Phenomenon)

    Good luck!!!!

  4. i agree with what was said above in that: it isn't just dirt with dead people, it is a resting place for loved ones.

cemeteries are not generally haunted by the bodies that rest in them. people are dead for days, sometimes, before they are buried in graves...and any lingering spirits are not likely to cling to their physical body. spirits will more likely return to a place they enjoyed spending time or possibly even people they had strong feelings for or against.

  5. Cemeteries are much more than just dirt with dead people.  They are places for remembering those who have passed before us.  They should always be shown respect and cared for the way you have been doing.

Dont change your habits of caring for the ground there.  Its a good thing to do and makes us remember that life is a truly special thing.

  6. ZOMBIES...oh no! LOL juuust kidding. My superstition is that if you stand on a grave in a cemetary the ghost of that person will haunt you for the rest of your days.

  7. i have always been told to never walk on headstones.

  8. I've always felt that cemetaries were some of the most peaceful places on earth.

  9. I'm not superstitious at all.  I do believe in ghosts, though.  you might be imagining things or really seeing and hearing things.
