We all know that sports is filled with annoying cliches and comments. Was just wondering what you feel is the most annoying, odd, dumb. etc.

for me its referring to opposing players in the plural..

ie.. "They have a good team there, with the Jeters, Posadas, Giambis etc" I never understood that and everytime I hear it it bugs me.

Number 2 is saying that veteran players who have had good careers "deserve to win a championship"..Why? What about the medicore guy who busts his butt.

  1. "What a Gold Glove Play"

  2. Not sure if this is in the cliche category, but I don't like it when players say they won because God or The Lord was "looking out for them" or "helped them pull out the win". Do they think that God really was rooting for one team over the other? Do they think that God wasn't looking out for the other team?

  3. Chris Berman's "BACK BACK BACK GOOOOOOONE!" And since I live in Ottawa Illinois I get annoyed at the Comcast announcer that says "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD, YESSS!" White Sox fans you know who im talking about

  4. He came to play.

My thought is always that I would hope so. Wouldn't make much sense for a ballplayer to show up to a ballpark to cut the grass or sell beer.

  5. i agree

  6. The same people making the same calls for homeruns year after year.

    "That ball is history"

  7. anything Tim McCarver says

  8. "i tip my hat to him"

you can say something else, like "he did a great job" or "he got a good one off of me"

i mean its good to give props to a guy but maybe they should try to mix up the words a bit ^^

i'm tired of the "angels need a big bat" and "angels suck at postseason" comment. hopefully we banish those comments for good ;)

  9. "Whatever I can do to help the team"

  10. I hate when an announcer sees a good play then tries to sensationalize it, i.e "Ohhhhh my goodness, now that was one of the greatest plays you will ever see"

    total b.s

  11. "Our backs are against the wall"

"We'll take it one game at a time"

  12. it is what it is

  13. "The game is won on the field"  Really?

Thanking God for a win.  Like He really cares about sports.

  14. anything that comes out of Dave Sims mouth, all he ever says are cliches.  Probably the worst play by play man (Mariners) I've heard.

  15. My problem is not so much with HR calls, as seems to be the case with most of the people. My problem lies within the accepted connotation of "old" in baseball.

Many fans see 35 as being old and not worth the risk, but looking at Greg Maddux's (44) start last season, Barry Bonds' (42) 25+ HR season last year, Omar Vizquel's (41) consistantly good defense (though he can't swing so well anymore), and Roger Clemens' (45) possibly steroid fueled last 5 years there isn't so much of an issue anymore. h**l, look at Nolan Ryan or Satchel Paige, they played themselves right into the AARP

  16. FSN Rocky Mountain's George Frazier. Anything he says.

"Back when I was a pitcher for the Yankees..." He fails to mention that he blew an entire World Series for them!

And "My daughter Georgia..." We don't care about your daughter!!! What's happening with the Rockies?!?!

    :)
