  1. In the United States there are several different taxes and in addition each state differs.  For example, Nevada does not have an income tax.  In the US you will have deducted INCOME TAXES, SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES, and MEDICARE TAXES.  Those are your big three.  Then, depending on the State, you may have additional taxes.  Generally this is called an INCOME TAX.  If you'd like to know what taxes are for your state (%, kinds, etc), go to that states on-line TAX DEPARTMENT and find out.

Here is one good resource: http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/tax_str...

    Good luck in your quest.

  2. There's Federal Income tax withholding.  How much gets withheld depends on how you complete your Form W-4.  Then there's state income tax withholding.  A good many states follow the federal withholding but some states have their own withholding forms so you need to check.  Then there is social security tax (6.2% up to $102,000 of wages) and medicare tax (1.45% of wages) that is deducted as employee contribution.  As a note, your employer pays to the federal government a matching amount in your behalf.
