What makes a restaurant a dive?

I know a diner is modeled on the dining car, and a drive in is a restaurant you drive up to and they serve you in your car, but what makes a restaurant a dive? have i been watching too much food network?

  1. seeing the cook pick his nose on the way out of the bathroom,roaches,and men outside asking if you can spare some change,and your feet sticking to the floor.

  3. what makes a good restaurant is this:

    presentation

    atmosphere

    quality of the food

    anything lacking of these 3, for me, constitutes a dive

  4. Somewhere that you think would be totally gross to eat and they have the best food. We have a couple of hole in the wall places (you do not want to even see the bathroom) but they have the best food!!!
