What martial art teaches you balance and stability, flexibility, endurance maybe, but mostly flexibility and not having to necessarily use all your strength against the oponent. I tried capoeira but the classes in my city do not teach well at all.

  1. I suggest Judo myself, have done it for three years and have found it greatly useful. Defense is the best offense, Judo follows that rule, you don't have to be over 6ft or have the muscles of mike tyson. Judo is about using your opponents strength against them, its all about technique.

    Hope this has helped, Tom.

  2. Tae Kwon Do.

  3. There are several it all depends on what you want out of it.

Aikido. Its about using Your Opponents own force against them.

Tae Kwon do is also a very good martial art if you can find a real teacher and not a sport teacher. the Real use of the Martial art branches into several different disciplines that don't involve tons of force.

Isshin-Ryu is also a very good Martial art if you can find the right instructor as it teaches a lot of Pressure point attacks and defenses so that no force is needed.

I cross trained in several different Martial arts (Tae Kwon Do, Tang So Do, Aikido, Isshin-Ryu, Judo,Jujitsu) and i will tell you the best of the ones i was involved in are

    Tae Kwon Do and Isshin-Ryu

    Stay away from

    Capoeira(or break dance fighting)

Boxing (kick boxing is a solid martial art, but regular boxing is a joke)

    and

    Wrestling

They have no real use in an actual fight And all of them have perhaps the most obvious, and easiest to exploit weaknesses in all of Martial Arts.

Your best bet is to get involved in several different Martial Arts so you can get a benefit from them all, as most have strong points and have weak points. Cross training Gives you Balanced approach to self Defense without any major weakness that may be associated with sticking with just 1 style.

But all is for nothing if you train in it for Sport.

  4. you might like an animal style of kung fu, like hung gar or bagua etc

but any legit style of kung fu will teach you to use your opponents strength against them, using leverage and proper technique, and you will defiantly gain balance/stability/flexibility/endurance, along with many other benefits

  5. Just about any one of them.  As you already learned, the biggest variable is the quality of the instructor.

  6. Japanese Jiu-jitsu I'd suggest..

    Best wishes :)***

  7. try some kung fu

  8. most of what you are mentioning are key factors in most martial arts.

if it's strength you are looking for a striking art will probably be better than a grappling art.

Sorry to hear about you leaving capoeira, since it is ideal for strength training and endurance

if you like you can always e mail me for some pointers to get back in the game

  9. Wushu (modern)

    Judo

    Jujutsu
